In an article referenced by Elizabeth Brooks in this Facebook post, research confirmed what many of us intuitively know, or have experienced ourselves- Care-taking creates inequitable hurdles to participating in continuing education and professional development, and this “baby penalty” disproportionately impacts women, particularly women of color.
While breastfeeding conferences have traditionally welcomed breastfeeding infants in arms, SELCA is taking it a step further for this year’s conference- we support and welcome all children, regardless of age.
We are pleased to announce the following amenities for parents-
- A dedicated family friendly space, where children of all ages are welcome to stretch, rest, play, study and hang out- with access to the conference sessions, so parents can still learn
- Parent helpers available- both adult and teen/tween caregivers will be onsite to assist parents who need an extra hand
- Free kid’s meals (email conference@selca.info if you need one)
- Free companion meals- for parents that bring a companion along to help with the children, we will feed them, too! (email your request to conference@selca.info if you need one)
- Sometimes, Care-taking extends beyond children- we want to accommodate any family member who needs care! Email your needs to conference@selca.info.
- Register today to avoid the 10/1 fee increase, and bring the family! More information about the conference is available here
The Family Friendly Space is presented in partnership with our Gold Sponsor, Wilson Family Chiropractic- we are grateful for the support of this family-centered business!
