As we wrap up World Breastfeeding Month with the conclusion Black Breastfeeding Week, I hope everyone remembers that the challenges continue . . .
The reasons we need Black Breastfeeding Week, highlighted in this great listicle, don’t disappear as we prepare for Labor Day cookouts, and gear up for fall (with all things pumpkin spice). SELCA commits to keeping these realities in mind as we move forward in our mission to help you help breastfeeding families, which brings us to #7!
#7) Sponsor People of Color to become a member of a professional organization. Memberships to professional organizations can be very costly, depending upon the organization. (Stacy Davis, BA, IBCLC, ILCA.org Guest blog post)
We can do this! SELCA is giving away THREE memberships for 2018 to people of color, with the opportunity to earn up to 8 free CERPS, and many more benefits, such as networking and mentoring opportunities, a library of resources, and a discount on United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA) membership.
We also contribute to scholarship funds for USLCA and International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).
Apply for the membership scholarships here. We also encourage you to apply for the conference scholarship here, which includes a SELCA 2018 membership, as well. We encourage those who can to contribute to the scholarship funds here (your gifts may be tax-deductible!) Please share this opportunity widely.
Thank you for discovering, celebrating and supporting Black Breastfeeding Week with us! We hope to see you at our conference in November!
